Portage, Inc. is a growing engineering and environmental services company based in Idaho. The company was established in Idaho Falls in 1992 by Mike Spry, Nick Stanisich, Kevin Poor and Harry Fugate who originally met while working at the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory (now the Idaho National Laboratory).

Since 1992, Portage has grown from a tiny office in Idaho Falls, to a 450-employee firm with offices throughout the United States. While the company headquarters still reside in Idaho Falls, major offices are also located in Kentucky, New Mexico and Texas. Portage supports projects in 20 different states as well as Guam, Iraq, Japan and South Korea.

Portage provides engineering, environmental remediation and other technical services to Department of Energy sites around the country, including at the Idaho National Laboratory, Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico, Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory in New York, the Mound site in Ohio, and the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant in Kentucky. Portage also supports the Department of Defense through its Air Force Center for Engineering and the Environment Global Engineering, Integration and Technical Assistance Contract. In addition to supporting the Department of Defense and the Department of Energy and their contractors, Portage works with a wide range of clients including the Bureau of Land Management, Idaho and Montana Departments of Environmental Quality, and the U.S. Forest Service as well as private industry.

Portage has been named one of Inc. magazine’s 500 fastest growing small businesses four different times. In addition, it has been named the “National Minority Service Firm of the Year” by the U.S. Minority Business Development Agency, “Small Environmental Business of the Year” by Brooks Air Force Base and “Indian Business of the Year” by the National Center for American Indian Enterprise Development.

In addition to its commitment to provide excellent service and successfully deliver on projects, Portage is dedicated to the communities where it operates, supporting economic development, education programs, and local, small businesses whenever possible.
