North Wind Portage is seeking a Health & Safety Technician in Luckey, OH


The Health and Safety (H&S)Technician for the Luckey Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program(FUSRAP) Remediation Project is responsible for ensuring that all elements ofthe approved project H&S work plans are implemented and enforced on site,under the direction of the Luckey Site Safety and Health Officer. Duties shall include,but are not limited to:

  • Assisting with evaluations andrecommendations regarding safe work practices and the day-to-day monitoringrequirements specified in project work control documents.

  • Conducting daily safety and healthinspections and maintaining a written log.

  • Conducting incident investigationsand completing required reports.

  • Implementing and assisting personnelin complying with safety and health plans and procedures.

  • Performing environmental andphysiological monitoring for heat and cold stress.

  • Performing safety and occupationalhealth management, surveillance, inspections, and safety compliance assurance forthe project.

  • Performing sampling and monitoringactivities in working areas for noise, respiratory, and other hazards, using calibratedindustrial hygiene sampling equipment and real-time monitoring instruments.



Requirements

  • 3 - 5 years of health & safetyexperience, with increasing job responsibilities

  • Excellent written and verbalcommunication skills.

  • Ability to coordinate multipleactivities and provide H&S oversight for multiple contractors and crafts.

  • Experience working on radiological,beryllium, and/or hazardous waste sites.

  • Experience on a U.S. Army Corps ofEngineer (USACE) site preferred.

  • Working knowledge of applicablefederal and state safety and health regulations, including USACE EM 385-1-1, Safety and Health Requirements Manual.

  • Experience with or working knowledgeof the following safety subjects is a plus:

  • Excavations and Trenching

  • Respiratory Protection

  • Hazard Communication

  • Electrical Safety

  • Fire Protection and Prevention

  • Fall Protection

  • Welding, Cutting, Brazing, andGrinding (Hot Work/Spark and Flame)

  • Personal Protective Equipment

  • Hearing Conservation

  • Permit Required Confined Spaces

  • Lockout/Tagout

  • Cranes and Material HandlingEquipment

  • Professional certification(s) and/orlicensure are desirable.

  • Ability to obtain Radiation WorkerII qualifications, complete OSHA Hazardous Waste Operations and EmergencyResponse (HAZWOPER) worker qualifications, and pass a HAZWOPER/respirator usermedical exam.

  • Ability to work in different typesof personal protective equipment (half-face, full-face respirators, Tyvek,etc.) while performing various tasks/activities (e.g., climbing, walking,stopping, etc.) in different work environments (e.g., cold, heat, etc.).

  • Experience in work environments withexposure to all weather conditions and temperature extremes.

  • Proficient in use of MicrosoftOffice software (Microsoft Word, Excel).

  • Motivated and willing to work aspart of a team and perform multiple job functions.

  • Ability to clearly communicate, bothorally and in written form, and to maintain records related to the job.

  • Ability to read and comply withproject direction contained in project-specific plans and procedures, and/orexecute tasks after receiving verbal direction.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

  • May be required to pass apre-employment background check.

  • Must be required to pass apre-employment drug screen.

  • Must be required to undergopre-employment beryllium blood testing (to be scheduled by Portage). Onlypeople who are found to not be sensitized to beryllium will be allowed to workon the Luckey site.

  • Experience onremediation/construction type projects is highly desirable.

  • Experience in emergency managementand/or emergency medical response is a plus.

  • Certification as having completedtraining in first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) by a recognizedorganization such as the American Red Cross is a plus.
